Definition

The average HYROX® time is the typical duration it takes a participant to complete all 16 segments of a HYROX® race - eight 1 km runs and eight functional workout stations. Averages vary significantly by division, gender, and experience level. For the Open division, men average approximately 85-95 minutes and women approximately 95-105 minutes globally.

How It's Calculated

HYROX® tracks every athlete via chip timing. The total time starts when you cross the start mat and stops after the final station. Official averages are published after each season and broken down by:

  • Division - Open, Pro, Elite 15, Doubles, Relay
  • Gender - Male, Female, Mixed (Doubles)
  • Age group - where applicable

The global average includes all finishers at every sanctioned HYROX® event worldwide during a season.

What Affects It

Factor Impact
Running fitness Accounts for ~50-60 % of total time
Station efficiency Transition and execution speed at each station
Pacing strategy Even pacing prevents late-race collapse
Division weights Heavier loads in Pro and Elite slow station splits
Venue conditions Altitude, temperature, surface type

HYROX® Benchmarks

Division Men (avg) Women (avg)
Open 85-95 min 95-105 min
Pro 70-80 min 80-90 min
Elite 15 58-68 min 65-75 min
Doubles 75-85 min (team) 85-95 min (team)

These figures represent global seasonal averages from 2023/24. Individual event averages can differ by 5-10 minutes depending on the venue.

How to Improve

  1. Increase weekly running volume - target 30-50 km/week with at least one tempo run.
  2. Practice station-to-run transitions - train simulation workouts to replicate race fatigue.
  3. Nail your pacing plan - use your split times from training to set realistic race-day targets.
  4. Strengthen weaknesses - if your Sled Push or Wall Balls are disproportionately slow, dedicate extra sessions to those stations.

FAQ

What is a good HYROX® time for a beginner? Finishing under 100 minutes in the Open division is a strong first-race result. Most beginners should aim to simply complete the race and use their split data to improve.

How much faster are Elite athletes than Open? Elite men finish 25-35 minutes faster than the Open average, largely due to superior running pace and heavier station loads completed at speed.

Do averages differ by city? Yes. Events in cities with large competitive communities (e.g., London, Hamburg) tend to produce faster averages than newer host cities.
