Definition

The HYROX® sled push weight is the total load an athlete must push 50 metres across the venue floor at Station 2. The weight includes both the sled itself and any added plates, and it varies by division and gender. Knowing your exact sled push weight is essential for training with the right load and pacing the station correctly on race day.

How It Works

After the first 1 km run, athletes enter the workout area and push a weighted sled 50 m down and back (or in a straight line, depending on venue layout). The sled sits on a smooth surface and must cross the finish line completely. You may push from any position on the sled - most athletes use the high handles for leverage at the start and switch to low handles when fatigue sets in.

Sled Push Weight by Division

Division Men Women
Open 152 kg 102 kg
Pro 202 kg 152 kg
Elite 15 202 kg 152 kg
Doubles (per team) Same as singles division Same as singles division
Relay (per leg) Same as singles division Same as singles division

Pro and Elite 15 men push 202 kg - a 50 kg jump from Open. Women in Pro and Elite 15 push 152 kg, equal to the men's Open load. Doubles and Relay teams use the same weight as the corresponding singles division.

Rules & Regulations

  • The sled must fully cross the marked finish line for the rep to count.
  • Athletes must push the sled; pulling it is not permitted.
  • You may use high or low handles at any time.
  • If the sled veers off the lane, a judge will instruct you to reposition it.
  • No running start is allowed - the sled must be stationary before you begin pushing.

Why It Matters

The sled push is often the most feared station because the weight feels dramatically heavier on fatigued legs after a 1 km run. Training at or above your division's competition weight builds the specific strength and mental resilience needed to maintain pace. Athletes who underestimate sled push weight in training often hit a wall at this station and lose minutes.

Tips & Strategy

  • Train heavier than race weight. Pushing 10-20 kg above your competition load in training makes race day feel manageable.
  • Use short, powerful steps. Lean into the sled at roughly a 45-degree angle and drive with your legs.
  • Switch handle height. Start on high handles for speed, drop to low handles when the sled slows.
  • Control your breathing. Exhale forcefully with each push step to maintain power output.
  • Practice transitions. Simulate arriving at the sled after a hard 1 km run using a brick session approach.
