Definition
Ranking in HYROX® refers to an athlete's position relative to other competitors within their division, age group, or globally across all events in a season. Rankings are determined by the athlete's best HYROX® Score and serve as the competitive leaderboard that drives the sport's competitive ecosystem. Whether you are competing locally or eyeing the World Championships, your ranking tells you exactly where you stand.
How It's Calculated
Rankings are calculated using each athlete's best HYROX® Score from the current season:
Ranking Position = Placement based on best HYROX® Score within the selected category
Rankings are segmented across multiple dimensions:
- Global Ranking - all athletes in a division worldwide
- National Ranking - athletes within a specific country
- Event Ranking - placement at a specific race
- Age Group Ranking - athletes within defined age brackets (e.g., 30-34, 35-39)
- Division Ranking - separate rankings for Open, Pro, Elite, Doubles, and Relay
Rankings update automatically after each event's results are verified and published.
What Affects This Metric
- HYROX® Score - the primary input; a lower score equals a higher ranking
- Number of races - more races increase the chance of posting a top score
- Division selection - ranking pools differ in size and competitiveness
- Seasonal timing - rankings evolve throughout the season as more events occur
- Competition density - rankings in regions with more events tend to be more competitive
- Season results - consistent performances across multiple races strengthen your position

How to Improve
- Focus on your best single performance. Since ranking uses your best score, it is better to have one exceptional race than several mediocre ones. Plan your season around one or two peak races.
- Race in the right division. Competing in the division that matches your ability gives you a more meaningful ranking and avoids being outclassed.
- Target running improvements. Running gains tend to have the largest impact on overall time and therefore on ranking position.
- Study the leaderboard. Know where the cutoffs sit for your target ranking tier. This gives you a concrete pace and split target for race day.
- Race early in the season. Posting a strong score early establishes your ranking and lets you defend it throughout the season.
