Often called the "hidden time" in HYROX®, transitions are frequently overlooked by athletes but can collectively account for 3-8 minutes of overall time. Reducing transition time is one of the easiest ways to improve race performance without increasing fitness.
How It's Calculated
Transition time is derived from timing mat data:
Transition Time = Time between leaving the running lane and starting station work + Time between finishing station work and re-entering the running lane
Across a full HYROX® race, there are 16 distinct transitions:
- 8 run-to-station transitions (entering each workout station)
- 8 station-to-run transitions (leaving each station to begin the next run)
Total transition time is often not displayed as a single number in results, but can be calculated by subtracting all running splits and station splits from the overall time.
