HYROX Pro
HYROX Pro is the intermediate individual division featuring heavier station weights than Open and serving as the qualification pathway to Elite. With a 202 kg sled push for men and 152 kg for women, Pro demands dedicated strength alongside running fitness.
Definition
HYROX® Pro is the intermediate individual division featuring heavier station weights than HYROX® Open and serving as the qualification pathway to HYROX® Elite. Pro is designed for experienced athletes who have outgrown Open weights and are ready for a more demanding competitive challenge. While some events allow open registration for Pro, competitive Pro athletes typically need to demonstrate fitness levels significantly above the Open average.

Key differences from Open:
- Sled push is 50 kg heavier for both genders -- this is the most impactful weight increase.
- Sled pull adds significant resistance, making rope technique even more critical.
- Farmers carry weights increase by 8 kg per hand, demanding greater grip strength.
- Women perform 100 wall balls instead of 75, matching the men's rep count.
- Pro may require a qualification time at some events. Check the specific event page for requirements.
Who It's For
- Experienced HYROX® athletes: Athletes who have completed Open multiple times and consistently finish in the competitive range (sub-75 minutes for men, sub-85 minutes for women).
- Strong runners with functional fitness: Athletes averaging sub-4:30/km running splits who also handle strength stations confidently.
- Athletes targeting Elite qualification: Pro is the mandatory stepping stone to Elite. Achieving a fast Pro time is the only way to qualify for the top division.
- Competitive fitness athletes: Former or current CrossFit, OCR, or triathlon competitors who want a higher-intensity HYROX® challenge.
Typical Pro finish times: Men 60-80 minutes, Women 65-85 minutes. Competitive Pro athletes targeting Elite qualification aim for sub-60 (men) and sub-70 (women).
HYROX® Context
HYROX® Pro sits in the middle of the competitive pyramid and represents a significant step up from Open. The heavier sled weights are the biggest differentiator -- a 202 kg sled push requires a fundamentally different approach than a 152 kg push. Athletes must develop specific sled power and technique that goes beyond what Open demands.
The progression path is clear:
Open --> Pro --> Elite
Pro races are the primary qualification pathway for the HYROX® World Championships. Athletes who achieve qualifying times in Pro earn the right to compete at Worlds in the Pro division, and the fastest qualify for Elite.
Training for Pro requires dedicated attention to the strength stations. While an Open athlete might survive the sled push on running fitness alone, a Pro athlete needs targeted sled training with loads at or above 200 kg. The HYROX® Sled Push guide and HYROX® Training Plan provide specific protocols for this transition.
FAQ
When should I move from Open to Pro? Consider Pro when you consistently finish Open in under 75 minutes (men) or 85 minutes (women) and feel confident that heavier station weights would not break your race. Training with Pro-weight sleds and farmers carry in preparation is essential before making the switch.
Is the sled push really that much harder in Pro? Yes. The jump from 152 kg to 202 kg (men) is substantial -- it is not just 33% more weight, it changes the movement pattern. Many first-time Pro athletes report the sled push as the station where they lose the most time relative to Open. Dedicated sled training with heavier loads is non-negotiable.
Can I qualify for World Championships in HYROX® Pro? Yes. Pro division results at qualifying events count toward World Championship qualification. Achieving a top percentage finish or a qualifying time earns you a spot at Worlds in the Pro category.
