The final timing point in a HYROX race, crossed after completing the 8th running lap following the last station.

The Finish Line is the final timing point in a HYROX race, crossed after completing all eight workout stations and the eighth 1 km running segment. It records the athlete's official overall time.

Definition

The Finish Line is the final timing point in a HYROX® race, crossed after completing the last workout station (Wall Balls) and the eighth and final 1 km running segment. Crossing the finish line stops the clock and records the athlete's overall time. It is the culmination of 8 km of running and 8 functional workout stations, making it one of the most emotionally charged moments in the HYROX® experience.

How It Works

The finish line is positioned at the end of the final running lane inside the race venue. After completing the 8th station (Wall Balls), athletes re-enter the running lanes for their final 1 km lap. Upon completing this lap, they cross the finish line where the timing mat records their chip time.

The sequence leading to the finish:

  1. Complete Station 8 (Wall Balls)
  2. Exit the transition area
  3. Run the 8th and final 1 km lap
  4. Cross the finish line timing mat
  5. Overall time is recorded and displayed

At most events, the finish line runs through or near the Roxzone, ensuring that athletes finish in front of spectators and with maximum atmosphere.

Rules & Regulations

  • Athletes must complete all 8 stations and all 8 running laps before crossing the finish line for a valid result.
  • The chip on the race bib must be intact and functional for the finish time to register.
  • Athletes who do not cross the finish line within the time cap of 4 hours receive a DNF (Did Not Finish).
  • No external assistance is permitted in the final running segment. Athletes must cross the finish line under their own power.
  • In Doubles events, both partners must cross the finish line for the time to be recorded.

Why It Matters for HYROX® Athletes

The finish line is more than a timing point - it represents the completion of a grueling test of hybrid fitness. For competitive athletes, finish line awareness matters because:

  • Sprint finish potential - athletes who maintain reserves can gain 5-15 seconds in the final 200m
  • Photo opportunity - the finish line is heavily photographed and broadcast, providing a moment of personal celebration
  • Mental target - knowing the finish line is ahead fuels the final push through fatigue
  • Results validation - only a clean finish line crossing with a working bib chip produces an official result

Tips & Strategy

  1. Save something for the final km. The last run after Wall Balls is where many athletes walk. If you pace stations 7 and 8 wisely, you can run the final km strong and gain positions.
  2. Know the finish line location. During the race briefing, note where the finish line is relative to the final running lane turn so you can mentally prepare for the final push.
  3. Maintain form. Crossing the finish line with good running form prevents injury and saves seconds over a fatigued shuffle.
  4. Enjoy the moment. Raise your arms, soak in the atmosphere. You have earned it after completing one of the toughest fitness races in the world.

FAQ

What happens if my timing chip does not register at the finish line? If the chip fails, contact race officials immediately. HYROX® uses backup timing and video review to resolve disputes and ensure results are recorded.

Is there a finish line in Doubles and Relay events? Yes. The same finish line is used for all divisions. In Doubles, both partners must cross together for the result to count.

Can I walk across the finish line? Absolutely. There is no requirement to run. Many athletes walk or jog across the finish line, especially in later waves. What matters is completing the full course.
